When I was about 20, in college, I had a friend that liked to watch figure skating.  I have always been very competitive, and enjoyed watching it in the Olympics, but I was more of a football girl and never really got into skating all the time.  But we had fun watching together on the fuzzy TV in my dorm room, and I started getting more and more invested.

Turns out there was a fairly new ice rink a few miles from the college, so we decided to go skating one day.  I had never been ice skating before.  Of course, I spent most of...

So today is day three of my "restart" of a special detox diet I am trying.  I started it a few weeks ago, then got the flu a couple weeks in and completely went off the rails when I was sick.  But I'm trying again!  I'm not actually trying to detox, although if I can improve my alkalinity then that's a great side benefit.  My main goals are to lose some belly fat and have more energy.

One of my favorite lines from one of the Marvel Justice League movies (I can't remember all their names anymore), is right after the big battle scene where they save the world from alien invaders.  Iron Man barely escapes through some time-dimension-warp-whatever hole in the sky, and as his friends rush to his side he says the classic line, "ya ever tried shawarma?"

As a matter of fact, I have.  I am of partial Armenian descent, and while living in Orange County, CA my husband and I discovered an Armenian restaurant with the best chicken shawa...

I have spent years encouraging my mom to take care of herself.  She has type 2 diabetes, and I have always encouraged her to improve her eating habits and stay active.  I even bought her a FitBit so I could challenge her to weekly competitions.

Just recently she texted to tell me she has completely stopped taking insulin throughout the day.  She only takes a small dose before bed.  And her sugars are lower than even before.  She stopped drinking soda.  She stopped eating sweets (that's a big deal for my mom).  She has been eating c...
